PUPCET 2014 (First Batch) (c) @GaGeGianno |
It’s PUP College Entrance Test season! As always, huge
number of graduating high school students aim to earn their future inside our Sintang Paaralan. As I examine this
year’s PUPCET, I've noticed that everything seems to flow smoothly. Meaning,
the system is much better than the previous year’s. The lines are more
organized, staffs and volunteers are scattered and functioning, and most of
all, the parents are waiting in the other dimension. Because as much as I can
remember in times like this, the farther the babies away from their mommies,
the farther the chance of getting trouble in the system.
But still, present is this undisputed enemy that the takers
and other PUPians couldn't escape through. If there is forever, then it would
probably be the time-eating yet no-eating, waiting queue of the university.
Pila Ulit Pila—one
of the many versions that students tagged to our university’s acronym. In my six years of living the PUPian dream, I
have endured and continuously battling many obstacles especially our school’s
well-known ‘Pila’ system. And for
those outsiders and Isko-wannabes
there, you got to get your muscles ready as early as now. For certain, PUP’s
gate pass rule isn’t only “No ID, No Entry”, but also “Weaklings, No Entry”.
Nah, just kidding. Anyway, here’s some of my tips for your trip down the PUP’s
rendition of WWE Survivor Series..
1.
Eat the whole rice fields before leaving – You
can eat the farmers too. ‘Cause it’s a Hunger Game, literally. You won’t
survive if your gasoline drains in the middle of a long and slow-moving line.
Remember that it is always important that you go to this battle with your tummy
in full tank. Eat at home, or you can also bring snacks and water with you. And
if you have an annoying person next in line, eat him too.
2.
Check your requirements a hundred times before
going – Make sure you have EVERYTHING that is needed and an extra copy for
each. Also, make sure that each copy has an extra more copy. You should do this
a week or more before the day you’ll submit these records. Passing requirements
has been very vital in your enrollment/examining procedures. If you cleared this
thing out, you don’t need to text your mom to go to your province and get a
record of your birth certificate ASAP while you’re in the middle of the line.
3.
Bring medicines, first aid kit (optional. Of
course, no one wants to be crushed in a stampede), etc – For those with special
conditions like dust or noise hating people, enroll to other universities. Your
first training as a resilient Filipino citizen was failed.
4.
Enjoy the atmosphere – This is very important.
In the midst of enrollment or examining stress, learn how to appreciate your surroundings.
Relax. Check on the different parts of the campus you are into while in the
line. Besides, this will help you to get familiar with your future college
word.
5.
Have friends – In here, students usually find
their first PUP buddy! Whether you like it or not, you’ll find people in the
line that will catch your attention. It’s not hard to try making friends. Don’t
be afraid to talk or smile at all. Being snobbish doesn't really help a lot. We
don’t know, but what if you’ll find your future love interest in them? Sparks
start here.
6.
Make sure you've got a damn cleaned body – Do I
still need to mention this? Please, have mercy towards people.
Alright. Now that you've been reminded about these stuffs, I
hope you’ll learn them all. You can devise other ways to survive this ultimate
obstacle. These are just friendly reminders about the basic things you should
know before having a PUPian life.
The struggle of a student in queue is a part of every
PUPian’s life cycle. We are not private school. Remember that you’re only paying/about
to pay Php12.00 per unit in this school, so no matter how hard the situation
is, we are trained to be excellent and competitive. And that’s what PUP is all
about. Even we lack in modern technology, air-conditioned rooms, functioning
facilities, and a lot more, PUPians learn to work from nothing, to produce EVERYTHING!
A long, tiring, and stressful line in the PUP system only
symbolizes this idea. It’s doesn't really matters how you win the line by
finishing first, but the heart that keeps on pushing until you finish it is the
real deal.
